Persuasive Poster Design: Highlighting Child Labour in Unfair Trade
This project required designing two persuasive posters that use visual rhetoric to address a societal issue. I chose to focus on child labour, specifically highlighting New Zealand’s role in importing goods produced through exploitative practices. The goal was to create awareness about how everyday
purchasing decisions can unknowingly contribute to child labour.
purchasing decisions can unknowingly contribute to child labour.

The concept centers on the idea that scanning a product is equivalent to "buying a child’s future." This is visually represented through barcodes placed over the faces and mouths of children, symbolizing how they are silenced, and trapped in an unfair system.
Adding a personal, confrontational element, I incorporated a child-like handwritten font to further emphasise the narrative, making the audience feel directly confronted by the real stories behind their purchases. This stylistic approach aims to not only inform but provoke action and
reflection among viewers.
